About the Artist
Antal Goldfinger's personal style has been described as "the equilibrium achieved through combining classical balance of form and space with the spontaneous execution of color." He is a master of the physical image, whether his subject be a dramatic landscape or a symbolically rich still life. Additionally, he possesses a strong desire to surpass the standard expectations regarding limited edition prints and insists on adding a "little original" to every one of them, making them each a one-of-a-kind treasure.
About the Piece
The title of this richly symbolic work hearkens back to the passage in Georg Frideric Handel's Messiah which declares, "And he shall purify the sons of Levi, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness." This, of course, refers to the ancient Hebrew Tribe of Levi, which was set apart by God to serve as priests and guardians of the Temples. An image of those very priests appears in the book at the center of this majestic painting. Immediately the viewer is reminded that we, too, are chosen as the Lord's workers, and just as he blessed the labor of his servants so many years ago, he does the same for those individuals and families he has called today. To the right, a curtain symbolizing our earthly veil is pulled to the side, revealing the Book of Mormon and Nauvoo Temple which serve as a reminder that we are practitioners of the Lord's work, allowed and welcomed into his very presence.
