About the Artist
Giuseppe D'Angelico--now better known as Pino Daeni, or simply Pino --was born in Bari, Italy in 1939. His father was a technician at a local university, and although the family suffered hardships due to the war-torn country's economic distress at the time, Pino found a refuge in art. "It is fine art, unlike other artistic milieu, that the brush strokes come from the heart rather than the eye," says Pino of his true calling.
About the Piece
Using his masterful technique of expressing emotion through the gesture of the human form, Pino has created a spectacular depiction of a mother gently preparing her three children for the present and for eternity. As she reads from the scriptures to her daughter and son, her youngest daughter has fallen asleep on the hem of her dress as the four enjoy what appears to be a quiet Sunday afternoon. As the viewer contemplates the feelings of love and protection which are embodied in this scene, one cannot help but consider the care with which the Lord instructs His own dear children.
